The color we call Lighter Green is commonly called by two other names: Jade Green and its German name, Hellgrün. This unique shade of green is a Porsche color that dates back to Porsche’s 1972 model year. Famously, it was one of the colors worn by the 1974 911 IROC RSRs. What's so special about those 911s? Imagine if driving champions from around the world were invited to the United States to race the same cars against each other. Think: a grid with champions from Formula 1, Indy, NASCAR, Champ Car, and SCCA racing (!) Now imagine that the event consisted of a series of races contested in specially built Porsche Carrera 3.0 RSRs, each 911 built to the exact same specification with the only major changes between them being unique colors that crowds could use to follow them by. It would be a pretty epic event right? That's basically what happened in 1973. Instantly, each of the 15 colors worn by the IROC RSRs earned its place in the history books with Lighter Green, then known as Jade Green, being among them.
