Porsche’s $90k+ chromaflair paints are certainly high end options, but that wasn't the first time Porsche strayed into exotic paints. Back in the 991.1 series run, one of the most unique 911 Turbo Ss we’ve come to know about was created. This is a Turbo S Cabriolet that was fully spec’d including true Paint to Sample. The MSRP on this car is roughly $320k, of which about $77k lies in its custom paint and related CXX. The color is called Boardman Blue Metallic. According to long time Paint to Sample expert Eduardo over on Rennlist, Boardman Blue Metallic is a special custom creation that consists of four layers with a pearlescent effect and intermediate sanding between layers- all done by hand. The process is so intensive, that like Porsche’s five chromaflair options, it can only be accomplished for a handful of cars every year. As you can imagine, having Porsche literally create a color- to be applied by hand- is something that carries with it significant costs both in time and money, hence the MSRP on this Turbo S Cabriolet. But if something is worth doing once, it’s worth doing twice, right? Scroll through to see a Cayenne, also in Boardman Blue Metallic, and also carrying an MSRP north of $300k.
