Although Etna Blue looks incredibly modern, this is one of Porsche’s most historic shades of blue, predating the 911 itself and going all the way back to 1960. Originally worn by the Porsche 356-B, Etna Blue is so vintage that it is one of the few Porsche paint to sample colors to have a Reutter number (740). As some of you might recall, these numbers were used by the Reutter company to identify paints back when Reutter assembled Porsche bodies and before Porsche did its own body production. Etna Blue was only around for the 1960-61 model years before it was removed from the menu. But as is the way with Porsche, that wouldn’t be the end of this color’s history as Etna Blue would later find its way into Porsche’s paint to sample program. Well over 50 years later, Etna Blue would find a new life with the 991 generation 911. To be sure, the 991 generation wasn’t the first to wear Etna Blue since its original departure, but it certainly did its fair share to bring Etna Blue into modern times. Not only would Etna Blue be worn by amazing 991s of several types- from Carreras to Turbos- but Porsche itself would choose the color for the 911 Targa 4S Exclusive Design Edition!
