While Porsche has had a few “Dark Blue” colors over the decades, paint to sample Dark Blue Metallic actually references a contemporary Porsche color. PTS Dark Blue Metallic goes back to around 2010 and was a nearly universal shade of “dark blue” for Porsche at the time. It was offered on all of Porsche’s platforms: the 911, Cayman/Boxster, Panamera, and even the Cayenne! Dark Blue Metallic effectively replaced Midnight Blue Metallic when it first came on the scene. At the time, it was said to take Porsche’s “dark blue” offering “cooler” in color, removing some of Midnight Blue Metallic’s slight red content (read: purple hues) in favor of hues that tilt slightly toward the greener side of the spectrum. Comparisons of reference formulas appear to confirm this, as Dark Blue Metallic contains less “pink” ingredients than Midnight Blue Metallic.
