The story of Alex Grey (Z58/alexgrau) starts in 1962, when the Dutch police traffic unit, the Algemene Verkeersdienst, faced the problem of enforcing safety on roads without speed limits. They turned to Porsche and had success with the 356. This relationship matured and later the AVD would use 911 Targas. These Porsches were each named Alex-[number] because they were stationed at the Alexander Police Station in The Hague. In 2017 Porsche reimagined those Targas with a special, limited, Targa 4S Exclusive Alex Edition. It featured among other things, a new color called "Alex Grey" developed by Porsche Exclusive in collaboration with Studio Piet Boon.
